Learn More About Schizophrenia Treatment & Recovery at Seven Hills
Schizophrenia is a mental health disorder in which an individual has impaired perceptions of reality, often being unable to differentiate between what is real and what is not real. For those with schizophrenia, things like colors, sounds, or tastes may appear altered in a strange way. Schizophrenics often experience hallucinations and paranoid or bizarre delusions. Additionally, these individuals may have difficulties organizing their thoughts and expressing themselves. Their speech and behavior can be so disorganized at times that it may be impossible to carry on a conversation with them. All of these symptoms often cause individuals with schizophrenia to socially withdraw as they tend to be afraid of others and others can be afraid of them. Thankfully, with professional help from a treatment center or hospital, schizophrenia symptoms can be successfully managed and overcome.

Types of Treatment Available
Types of Schizophrenia Treatment Offered at Seven Hills Hospital
When you arrive at Seven Hills Hospital at our convenient location near Las Vegas, Nevada, you will first complete a thorough assessment with one of our intake specialists, which will then be reviewed by one of our psychiatrists in order to ensure that we will be able to provide the most appropriate level of care for your specific needs for schizophrenia concerns at our hospital. Once you have been admitted into our center, we provide each patient with his or her own individualized plan of care which will be implemented in a safe, secure, and structured environment. We have a child and adolescent unit between the ages of 5-17, an adult mental health unit, an adult substance abuse treatment unit, an adult rehabilitation unit, and a geriatric unit, all tailored to meet the specific needs of each population while receiving treatment at our hospital. We utilize a number of different therapeutic techniques on each of our units, which include the following:
Detoxification: When adult patients come to us dependent on alcohol or other substances they will first complete the detoxification process in order to remove all toxic substances from the body before fully engaging in the therapeutic process. All patients in our detox center are monitored 24 hours a day by nurses and doctors.
Medication management: Medication is the cornerstone of treatment for individuals suffering from the symptoms of schizophrenia. Antipsychotics are the most common form of medication used because they can help decrease the intensity of psychotic symptoms. Mood-stabilizers and antidepressants may also be used to treat the symptoms of mood swings and depression that may also be present. Every patient who comes to us for treatment is seen within 24 hours by an internal medicine doctor in order to obtain a thorough medical history and to assess for any possible health complications. Additionally, all patients meet with a psychiatrist daily in order to monitor medication.
Individual therapy: Individual counseling sessions can be used to help patients with schizophrenia develop social and work skills that can help improve their lives and relationships. At Seven Hills, individual sessions are held on an as-needed basis.
Family therapy: Since it is very common for individuals with schizophrenia to be discharged back into the care of their family, it is important for family members to educate themselves about this disorder. Family counseling sessions are held on an as-needed basis, except for patients in our adolescent unit who are provided with family sessions once a week.
Group therapy: Group therapy is the main treatment method used here at Seven Hills Hospital, and all patients participate in two to three groups daily. Topics of discussion may include coping skills, stress management, anger management, effectively expressing emotions, communication skills, and life skills. For patients who are struggling with chemical dependency, there are also groups aimed at providing education surrounding addictive behaviors and triggers.
Experiential therapy: In addition to the traditional treatment modalities provided at Seven Hills, we provide our patients with a number of other programs designed to help our patients heal. These additional programs may include:
- Creative arts
- Meetings with a dietician
- Physical fitness opportunities
- Medication education
- Recreational therapy
- Music therapy
- A.A. meetings
